2015 Ford Escape Titanium Stalling After Gas Fill-Up

I’ve had my 2015 Escape for a month, and I love it, but I’m a bit worried. Every time I fill up my tank, the engine takes a while to crank, and I have to hurry to shift into gear to prevent it from stalling. The stalling usually lasts for 2-3 minutes. I’m using regular gas since it’s an EcoBoost, but I’m concerned. Should I switch to premium gas or get it checked out at the dealership?

It’s likely that the purge valve needs to be replaced. The symptoms you’re experiencing are characteristic of a stuck open purge valve.

I had to replace my purge valve at around 90,000 miles on my 2017 Escape.

@Emory
How much did it cost?

I’m not familiar with the specifics, but I believe this issue is related to a purge valve problem. Others have mentioned it. Using regular 87 unleaded is fine, but make sure not to top off the gas after the pump stops automatically.

It seems to be a purge valve issue. For now, avoid filling up completely.

It’s a purge valve issue.

As others have mentioned, it’s the purge valve. I had a similar issue with my 2017. Also, I had to replace a few spark plugs.

I’m experiencing the same issue with my 2015 Escape. Watch out for battery issues, too. The car can handle regular gas, as mentioned in the little door’s labeling near the gas filler.

What kind of battery issues are you experiencing?

I went through the same thing. It’s a purge valve issue. Before filling up, I’d start the car and rev the engine for a minute to prevent stalling. It wasn’t a long-term solution, though.

Purge valve issue.
