I’m new to this forum and don’t know much about vehicles, but my brother was driving my Escape and he said it got stuck in park and wouldn’t shift. There’s a recall on the shift cable bushing, so we think that’s the problem. But if it’s not, what else could be causing this? I really need the car in two days and the dealer has a 3-week wait… any advice would be super helpful!
I think it’s probably the bushing. You could try fixing it yourself if you can find the part locally. Here’s a video that might help: https://youtu.be/JmGecsOXbHM?si=fBbbuvIsGrWXKMby

I looked up some videos and it doesn’t seem too bad at all. Hopefully, this is the fix and I can handle it myself!
If it’s not the bushing, you might want to check the shift interlock solenoid. Sometimes those can cause shifting problems if they’re stuck or malfunctioning.

I didn’t think about the shift interlock solenoid. I’ll check that out too, thanks for the tip!
It could also be an issue with the transmission range sensor. If that sensor goes bad, it can cause shifting problems like the one you’re describing.

I’ll look into the transmission range sensor as well. Thanks for the suggestion!
Did you check if the brake switch is working properly? If the brake lights aren’t coming on, it might be related to the shifting problem.

I didn’t even think of that. I’ll check the brake lights too. Appreciate the help!
I had a similar issue with my Escape a while ago. It ended up being a broken shift cable. That could be another possibility if it’s not the bushing.

That’s good to know. I’ll check the shift cable too. Thanks for sharing your experience!
I had this issue with a car once, and it was just the shifter linkage being loose. You could check that too, just in case.

I had a similar issue, but it was a bad shift cable bushing. I got it fixed quickly by just replacing the bushing, so hopefully that’s all it is for you too.

Fingers crossed! I’m hoping it’s just the bushing too. Thanks for the reassurance!
Make sure you double-check the recall notice to confirm that’s the problem before replacing anything. If it’s part of the recall, it should be covered under warranty.

I will do that! Thanks for the reminder!
