I’m considering buying a 2017 Ford Escape Titanium 4x4 EcoBoost with 120,000 miles. The catch is it’s an as-is sale from someone who originally bought it at an auction. I don’t have a Carfax or AutoCheck report yet, but I can get one.
I’ve only owned Toyotas and Mazdas before, and I’ve never bought a used car with this many miles. Is this a reliable option, or should I pass? Any advice would be appreciated.
I’d avoid it unless you can confirm its maintenance history. Do some research. These models have a reputation for engine and transmission problems, though not all of them do.
I have this exact model, and I’ve had major issues. Engine damage at 100K miles and transmission rebuild at 112K. Unless you’re ready for big repair bills, I’d suggest looking at something else.
Absolutely not. Think about why it ended up at an auction in the first place. Now think about why the seller is trying to offload it. Doesn’t sound good.
Do not buy it. I own a 2017 Escape with the 1.4L engine, bought it at 80K, and now at 90K miles it’s already showing signs of coolant leaks. The backup camera is unreliable, and the overall build quality is terrible. Ford should honestly recall these. Save your money and avoid the headache.
