Any thoughts on using OBD II GPS trackers for my Escape?

Hey everyone… so this is my first post here! I’ve been lurking for a while and finally decided to reach out. I need some advice on installing a GPS tracker for our 2007 Escape vehicles since our employees have been cheating the cell phone tracking. I found a tracker on eBay for $49 that connects to the OBD port. Have any of you tried this? What should I be aware of before I dive in? I’m kind of clueless when it comes to tech stuff.

Sounds like a good idea! OBD trackers are pretty reliable. Just make sure to install them somewhere hard to access.

Not a silly question at all—it’s smart to be cautious! Most OBD tracking devices are designed to be safe and not mess with your car’s electronics. Just stick to a reputable brand, and you’ll be fine. If you’re still unsure, unplug it when you don’t need it for extra peace of mind.

Thanks for sharing that! So even if I buy a good one, I should keep an eye on it? Just in case?

Exactly! Better safe than sorry. Just unplug it when it’s not in use to avoid any worries.

You could put a label saying ‘removal of OBD device will result in termination’. Might deter some tampering.

That might work for casual thieves, but anyone who’s experienced will probably ignore it. For real security, a lockable cover is better.

Check out Securatrak, we use them in remote areas and they work great. They come with OBD or hard-wired options.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I went ahead and got a few from eBay and set the first one up. It’s working fine so far! I’ve been using a Y-splitter for the OBD port, so diagnostics are still available. So far, so good…

Nice! Just a heads up—if you have inspections that use the OBD port, remember to unplug it before you go.

Oh really? I didn’t know that could be an issue. Thanks for the tip! What model do you use?
