Anyone else have oil pan covers that keep falling off?

Looking for advice on securing the undercarriage cover on my 2017 Escape. One corner keeps coming loose because the screw hole has worn out over time. I’ve tried using larger screws, but they only hold for a few days before coming out again. Does anyone know how to replace the plastic insert the screw threads into? Or have a more reliable long-term fix?

Thanks in advance!

Could you just use a zip tie to hold it up?

That might work temporarily. Thanks for the suggestion!

Try buying a set of new fasteners and inserts. Replace the worn-out part and use a new screw. I used this set: Amazon.com: Rexka 15 Sets T30 Engine Splash Shield Guard Undertray Cover Screws Bolt Nut Clip Kit Compatible with Ford Focus Fusion Escape Explorer C-Max Transit Connect Lincoln MKC : Automotive. A lot of quick oil change shops strip the inserts, and then the screws don’t stay in place.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely check that out!

I switched to this setup too. Super simple, and it’s all you really need to fix it.

I used a self-tapping screw with a flat washer, right next to the original hole. It’s not fancy, but it gets the job done quickly.

The factory screws are way too small, and the inserts strip out almost instantly. Replace the T30 screws with standard M6 10mm bolts (thread pitch doesn’t matter). Add some washers, and the bolts will create their own threads in the plastic inserts. Holds way better!

Might be worth asking a good mechanic. They might know a permanent solution.
