Are 2008-2012 Ford Escapes good for college?

@Dustin
Thanks! That’s helpful to know.

I’ve had a few of these Escapes. The V6 models tend to leak oil as they age, but they’re not too hard to fix if you’re handy. Watch out for rust in the rear quarters and suspension mounts. If you can find one in good shape and keep it rust-proofed, it’ll last a long time.

@Davi
Rust-proofing seems to be the biggest concern. I had a 2000 Explorer in high school, and I’m comfortable doing basic repairs myself. Sounds like these are a good fit for me.

I’ve got a 2008 XLT 4WD with 217k miles, and it’s been great. I’d recommend the V6 for better power. Just keep up with maintenance, and it’ll treat you well.

I love my Escape! I’m currently driving it in Germany, and it’s been super reliable. Parts can be tricky to find here sometimes, but it’s easy to work on. Planning to take it back to the US with me.

I bought a 2010 Escape two months ago. It needs some maintenance since it wasn’t well-kept, and my mechanic warned me about rust issues. Other than that, it’s a simple, reliable car.

I have a 2011 Escape Limited. My biggest issues are rust, a moonroof that leaks, and a parasitic battery drain. The air conditioner also went out recently. Other than that, it’s been just basic maintenance.
