Hey everyone, I recently bought a 2012 Ford Escape XLT (2nd gen), and I’m looking to upgrade the stereo to include Android Auto, a reverse camera, and other modern features. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good stereo unit?
I got one from Amazon. It’s a bit slow, but it runs native Android, which is awesome. It came with the CAN bus adapter, the plastic trim to fit in the dash, and a GPS antenna. I’d recommend buying the highest spec version available. Mine is the 2GB RAM + 64GB storage version, but I wish I’d gone for the 4GB RAM model—it would probably perform better. I think there’s a 4GB option for the 2nd gen Escape that’s worth checking out.

I second this! I have the cheaper version of the same head unit. It’s solid overall, but I’d also recommend going for the 4GB RAM version for faster performance.
Do you have a link to the one you bought?
I’m in Vancouver, BC, Canada, so I’ll be ordering from Amazon.ca. Does anyone know if these units are available there?
What about this one? Amazon Link
You might want to check Visions Electronics. I picked up a Sony head unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for $250 during a sale. It works great in my 2006 Escape. Not sure if your setup is similar, but it’s a super tight fit once installed—be ready for it to stay there permanently.
What’s the model number of the Sony unit you bought?
I found two options with high specs on Amazon. One has 6GB RAM with Android 12, and the other has 4GB RAM with Android 13. Any thoughts?
Here’s another option I found for the 4GB RAM, Android 13 model: Amazon Link. Let me know what you think!
