Considering Upgrading to a 2023 Ford Escape – Any Tips?**

Hi everyone,

I currently have a 2012 Ford Escape and am thinking about upgrading to a 2023 model. I’d love to hear any tips or advice on what to look for or consider before making the switch. Are there any specific features or issues I should be aware of with the 2023 Escape?

I’d be cautious. Ford’s engineering over the past decade hasn’t been great. My 2017 Escape had engine issues and failed under 100,000 miles after just 7 years. If you decide to get a new Escape, make sure to get the MAX coverage offered, as they don’t seem to last long.

If you’re looking for something new, consider other options. If you need a new car because your current one is having issues, avoid the 3rd and 4th gen Escapes (in my opinion) and look at the 2nd gen or pre-facelift 1st gen. If you’re thinking about upgrading just for the sake of it, I’d skip it.

My 2017 Escape with the 2.0 engine had a coolant leak at 60,000 miles, then developed transmission issues just before hitting 100,000 miles. Also, around the 3-year mark, I started having problems with peeling paint. I now own a Toyota RAV4 and don’t worry about unexpected issues with the vehicle.

How much cheaper is it compared to more reputable brands? When I bought my used Escape, it was $8,000 less than a comparable CRV or RAV4, which made the extra maintenance seem worthwhile to me. If you’re not getting a similar discount, I’d suggest avoiding it.

Or make sure to get an extended warranty. I like my 18 Escape, but we’ve had several large fixes and without our extended warranty, it would have been bad.

I wouldn’t recommend buying an extended warranty. They’re sold to make a profit, and on average, they’re not worth it. You might get lucky and benefit, but if they were truly valuable, they wouldn’t be sold.

Great advice. For me, the peace of mind is worth it. Our $2,500 warranty saved us over $11,000. I’ll keep advocating for them—worth it.
