Driver’s door making clicking noise… any ideas?

Hi all, my daughter is off at college and told me her driver’s door is making a loud clicking noise when she opens and closes it. She says there’s no visible damage to the door. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

This is a known issue. The welds on the check arm inside the door are failing.

I’ve got the same problem. My door doesn’t stop at the regular positions anymore, and now my window is slow to open. I don’t risk using it at all. Also, my keyless entry on the driver’s side stopped working, but it still works fine on the passenger side and with the fob button.

You should take it to the dealer. There’s a customer satisfaction program for this issue, so they’ll likely need to replace the entire door. Unfortunately, it might take months for the replacement to come in.

For reference, I have a 2020 model, and this is exactly how the issue started for me.

My work Escape had the same problem. The pinch welds broke completely at under 10,000 miles. They replaced the door, but then the water pump failed just 1,750 miles later.

Here’s a technical service bulletin about it: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2024/MC-10251241-0001.pdf

Take it to a dealership. If the door doesn’t close properly, have it towed in.

Thanks! She’s planning to go on Monday since she doesn’t have classes. Hopefully, they can look at it.

No need to stress. Just get it fixed and move on.

The door welds need to be repaired. This issue is part of a recall, so contact Ford right away.

The door is still functioning, but it’s adjusting itself due to the weld issue. Replacing it is expensive, but it might be the only option if it gets worse.

I had the same issue with my 2020. The weld snapped and went inside the door, which caused the window to stop working.

It’s a Ford… don’t be surprised if the door eventually falls off.

This just happened to my 2021. The dealership says the entire door needs to be replaced, but they’re back-ordered. Does anyone know how long the wait is?

It took 8 weeks for my door to arrive after the inspection. Hopefully, yours doesn’t take longer.
