Thinking about a 2025 Escape… are they worth it?

Hi, I’m interested in buying a 2025 ST Line Select Escape. Are these cars reliable? How many miles do you have on yours? I’ve been reading around this forum, and opinions seem to be all over the place. Any insights?

I just got a 2024 ST Elite a few weeks ago. My wife loves it.

I’m picking up my 2024 Platinum later this week. A friend of mine has a 2014 with the 2.0 engine and 280k kilometers on it—he’s a mechanic and says as long as you change the oil on time, they’re solid. I’m planning to change mine every 8,000 km because oil is cheap. I can’t say much about the 1.5 engines or hybrids, though.

I’ve got the 2024 ST Line Select with the 2.0 Ecoboost. Only 3k miles on it so far, so I can’t say much about long-term reliability. I’ve taken it on a 6-hour road trip, and it was super comfortable for me and my wife. The dealership recommends 5k mile oil changes, but I changed my oil myself at 1,500 miles.

I have a 2014 with the 2.0 turbo and AWD, similar mileage to your friend’s. Never had major issues—I’ve owned it since 2015 and change the oil religiously every 3,000 miles. It’s been rock solid.

I’ve got a 2020 Titanium, and I’ve had zero major issues. The window acted weird once, but it fixed itself after I turned the car off.

I’m still driving my 2007 manual 5-speed and recently bought a 2016 with 76k miles. On the 2007, the only big repair was a clutch kit replacement around 100k miles.

I got a 2024 ST Line Elite Hybrid in December. Loving it so far! I replaced the rear battery with a bigger one because of the cold weather here in Canada. I was getting a ‘low battery’ error, but since upgrading, no more issues.

I’ve got a 2019 with 56k miles. Had some electrical issues that seemed to be battery-related. After replacing the battery, no more problems.

I bought a 2015 AWD Escape with the 2.0 Ecoboost last year. It had 75k miles when I got it and now has 100k. Zero problems so far. I’ve been doing oil changes every 5,000 miles at the dealership. It’s a powerful SUV and handles great in bad weather like rain and snow.

I’ve owned a 2016 Titanium and now have a 2022 Hybrid. The 2016 had a few recalls but was fine until it was written off in an accident. The 2022 has had about 5 recalls (mostly minor), but I’m happy with it. It’s great for mileage, performance, and comfort.

Don’t.

Escapes have a history of issues: coolant intrusion, turbo leaks, bad block designs, and transmission failures. Some owners never have problems, but many do. If you’re shopping for a car, I’d avoid the Escape. Just my two cents.

@Emlyn
What year is yours?

I wouldn’t go for a non-hybrid unless you get an amazing deal. The 1.5 Ecoboost engine isn’t great, but the 2.5 Duratec is solid.

Why do you prefer hybrids? I have the 2.5L hybrid.

@Zeph
Sorry for the confusion! I was saying I’d only get a hybrid. Double negative there.

Lol, my bad! Totally misunderstood. Thanks for clearing that up!
