I need some advice on swapping tires and rims. I have a 2018 Ford Escape S model with 17-inch tires. My mother-in-law’s 2019 SEL Ford Escape, which had 19-inch tires, was totaled, but the rims and tires are still in good shape.
Can I swap the 19-inch rims and tires from her car onto my 17-inch Ford Escape? Are there any compatibility issues I should be aware of?
Thanks.
Hey,
The TPMS sensors won’t work until they’re reprogrammed, but the wheels will fit without any issues. The overall diameter difference is just +0.4%, so it’s essentially the same.
Hello Brown,
Make sure the 19-inch tires and rims don’t rub against the fenders or other parts of your vehicle when turning or driving over bumps. It’s best to check the clearance in person.
Hey Brown,
Switching to larger wheels and tires might make the ride less comfortable, as bigger tires can be stiffer. Larger tires can also lower fuel efficiency because they have more rolling resistance, which can reduce how far you can go on a gallon of gas.
It’s recommended to consult with a mechanic to ensure the swap is compatible and safe. They can also help you check for clearance issues and provide professional advice.
Please be aware of any local laws or regulations regarding tire and rim sizes. Some areas may have restrictions on the size of wheels and tires that can be installed on vehicles.
