My daughter just bought a 2022 Ford Escape, and the driver alert keeps telling her to stop and rest. She’s not tired at all, so it’s confusing. Could it be misinterpreting something? Is there a way to reset or adjust this system to work better for her? Or is it just better to turn it off?
The driver alert works with the camera behind the mirror and triggers if it detects the car drifting out of its lane. You can find the driver alert option under driver assistance in the touchscreen settings.
Does she have lane centering turned on? That might help with this issue.
The first thing to try would be checking the owner’s manual.
The system uses a camera looking out through the windshield and tracks how often the car crosses lines and other signals. It’s not a camera facing the driver. While you can turn it off, it sounds like it’s doing what it’s supposed to—detecting inconsistent driving. Only cars with Blue Cruise have driver-facing cameras.
This system doesn’t learn faces, at least as far as I know, and it’s not mentioned in the manual.
For what it’s worth, my wife gets this alert more often than me or my son. She wears glasses, and we don’t think it’s related to nationality. It might just be a combination of driving habits and how her eyes look to the system.
@Vic
She might want to get her vision checked if it’s alerting her a lot. It usually happens if the car goes out of its lane multiple times.

I thought it also alerts based on how you’re focusing, even if you stay in your lane. Isn’t the cabin camera tracking that?
@Vic
No, there’s no camera inside the cabin.
Oh, I thought there was one. I must have mixed it up with a newer model. Thanks for clearing that up!
It only gives that alert if you’re riding the lane lines too much. Weird to make it about race on this forum.
What’s next, a car being racist?
Why mention that she’s adopted? It doesn’t change how the system works. I’m sure Ford didn’t design the car to have issues with Chinese drivers. Try disabling the feature in the settings if it keeps being annoying. Then again, Ford tech can be hit or miss.
