Why is my heated seat changing color? Normal or not?

I noticed some discoloration on the driver’s heated seat. It looks like it’s been getting darker over time. The passenger seat, which doesn’t get used much, is still fine. Is this just dirt or could the seat heater be causing it?

That looks like regular dirt buildup. There’s usually plenty of foam between the heater element and the fabric, so it shouldn’t be from the heat.

Actually, the heating element is right under the fabric.

@Shawn
Really? That’s surprising. Sitting directly on metal coils doesn’t sound comfortable.

Edit: I checked and saw they now use heater mats in newer seats. If it’s a mat, it’s even less likely to cause burns compared to older coil designs.

Could it be from, you know, gas? Like farting while driving?

Stop using the heat if you’re gonna mess up the seat with gas, lol.

That just looks like normal wear and dirt. Nothing unusual.

White seats getting dirty? Wow, what a surprise.

Is it happening to all the seats or just the driver’s?

Only the driver’s seat. The passenger seat doesn’t get used much and its heater is rarely turned on.

It’s probably dirt from your clothes transferring to the seat over time.
