I’ve got a P0299 underboost code, and it turns out there’s oil leaking from my turbo. Multiple shops say it likely needs replacing, and I’m seeing signs too—struggling with acceleration on hills, engine revving up to keep up.
So here’s what I’m wondering… why is the turbo $500 on RockAuto, $800 on Advanced Auto, but only $200 or even less on eBay? Can I trust the eBay turbos, or is that asking for trouble?
Big difference between refurbished, brand new, and no-name knock-offs. You really don’t want to cheap out on a turbo. If it fails, it can shoot metal into the engine and ruin it completely.

Got it… so you’re saying those super cheap options on eBay are probably junk?

Yeah, pretty much. Anything that’s not OEM quality is a risk, especially with a part as critical as the turbo.
