I bought this car with 150k miles for $10k. Trying to figure out what big repairs might come up and if there are any common issues I should know about. Should I get an extended warranty? I have $2k in savings right now and can add $500 a month for repairs. Appreciate any advice or tips! Let me know if you need more info.
There’s no V6 option for that year. If it’s the 2.0 Ecoboost, you’re in better shape. If it’s the 1.6, you might need to save for a possible engine replacement. Also, change the transmission fluid more often than the manual says! If it’s AWD, don’t forget about the PTU and RDU maintenance.
@Nico
Good catch, you’re right! I was thinking of a RAV4 I looked at earlier. This one’s the 2.0 Ecoboost AWD.
Escapes from 2013 to 2019 are a headache. I’d save that $500 a month for a different car. Don’t throw more money into a Ford Escape.
May you find peace, because mine was stolen by one of these cars.

Yikes… should I go for the extended warranty?
@Devon
Honestly, I wouldn’t put any more money into it. If I were you, I’d sell it and look for something Japanese.

I agree with this 100%. I have a 2014 Ford Escape 1.6 Ecoboost, and it’s been a financial disaster.
Keep an eye on the coolant system—that’s one of the bigger issues. It might be a hose or the water pump. For the Ecoboost, the EVAP purge valve is a common problem, but it’s not too hard to fix. Honestly, the plastic tubing in these cars is one of the weak points.
The timing belt is supposed to be replaced at 150,000 miles. Do you know if it was done before you bought the car?
