Looking for a Cheaper Option for an Additional Key for 2020 Escape

Hi everyone,

I recently got a 2020 Ford Escape SEL, but it only came with one key. I called Ford, and they quoted me over $500 to make a new one, which seems pretty high. Has anyone had success getting a spare key made from a locksmith or other service at a more reasonable price? This model has keyless entry and push start, but I also have a physical key to unlock the door.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

Try different dealerships. One quoted me $300, but another 20 minutes away only charged $100.

Didn’t think to call around. Thanks for the tip!

Fun fact: all the numbers in your comment add up to 420!

You can likely get a cheaper key from a locksmith, but having only one key limits your options since some programming requires two keys. If you get a cloned key, it won’t let you add more in the future or retrieve your door code. Just a heads-up if you’re considering a DIY option—Forscan might work for programming if it’s compatible with your vehicle.

Good to know. I checked, and only two admin keys are listed in the settings.

Is there a Sam’s Club near you? Sometimes they host events where companies set up and make car keys and fobs on the spot. I got a replacement key for my dad’s truck there for around $75. I can check the name of the company if that helps.

There’s one within driving distance, so I’ll look into that! Do you know if they list these events on their website? Thanks for the info!

I think they do! The company was called Car Keys Express; they have a website at www.carkeysexpress.com.

The company I used at Sam’s Club was Car Keys Express (www.carkeysexpress.com), and they did it for around $75.

A local locksmith made a key for my Outback for $100. They came right to my driveway and did it on-site.
