I just got a 2013 Escape for free from a family friend, and it has an oil leak that makes me add about a quart of oil a day. I haven’t been able to jack the car up yet to see exactly where it’s coming from, but I plan on taking it in soon. Do you think it’s safe to drive it in the meantime if I keep adding oil until the oil light stays off?
My 2014 Escape 1.6L turbo has an oil drip I need to locate. I’ve checked by VIN # on the NHTSA website and no recalls are showing up.

It’s so frustrating! Good luck with yours
@Lennon
Thanks and you too.
It’s not okay to drive if it’s losing oil that quickly. If it’s been run with the oil light on, there’s likely internal engine damage due to oil starvation. The light is for oil pressure, not oil level.
@Bryn
Luckily, it hasn’t been run with the light on.
A quart a day? No, not at all.

Okay, thank you. I’ll take it in to get fixed soon, but I have another vehicle I can drive in the meantime.
If it has the 1.6L engine, certain 2013 models have a recall for overheating, cracked heads, and oil leaks. You might want to check into it. But overall, I’d say it’s not okay to drive.

It does have the 1.6L engine. They told me it’s not technically under the recall.
